How to Calculate Pip Value

A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest standard price increment in a forex pair. For most pairs it is 0.0001 (4th decimal place). For JPY pairs it is 0.01 (2nd decimal place).

The formula for pip value in your account currency is:

Pip Value = (Pip Size ร— Lot Size ร— Contract Size) รท Account Currency Rate

For example: 1 standard lot of EUR/USD at a pip size of 0.0001 and contract size of 100,000 = $10 per pip in a USD account.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pip in forex trading?

A pip is the smallest standard price movement in a currency pair. For most pairs it is 0.0001. For JPY pairs (USD/JPY, EUR/JPY etc.) it is 0.01. Some brokers quote a 5th decimal place called a pipette (fractional pip).

How much is 1 pip worth in EUR/USD?

For EUR/USD, 1 pip on a standard lot (100,000 units) equals $10 USD. On a mini lot (10,000 units) it equals $1, and on a micro lot (1,000 units) it equals $0.10.

Does pip value change with price?

For USD-quoted pairs like EUR/USD, pip value stays fixed at $10 per standard lot regardless of price. For cross pairs and JPY pairs, pip value fluctuates with the current exchange rate โ€” which is why our calculator uses live prices.
